New "Street Level Hero" Video Reveals Luke Cage's Hip Hop Influence

Netflix has just released a new video special on the upcoming Marvel Luke Cage series. It's called "Luke Cage- Street Level Hero Music". The video reveals that Luke Cage's showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker and music supervisor Adrian Younge have recruited several prominent rap artists to give the show an exciting soundtack.

You can see the video below:

The artists featured in the video include Method Man, A$AP Ferg and Ali Shaheed Muhammed from A Tribe Called Quest. The staff is completely committed to the music of the show, with Younge saying he looks at the 13 episodes of the series as being 13 albums. The video goes into how every episode is going to be named after a different Gang Starr song. For instant one episode is named "Soliloquoy of Chaos" while another is called "Moment of Truth."

The staff talked about how the speed of hip-hop goes well with the speed of Luke's fighting. “It was about getting that hip-hop foundation and making sure those drums were as big as day,” Muhammed said. "We wanted to create something great,” Younge explained. “Not just for black people or minorities; just something great that just happens to be based on our culture.”

Luke Cage will be barreling into Netflix on September 30th. I love what I've seen so far and think the sound track sounds great. What about you? Are you looking forward to the show?
