New Star Wars Film Reportedly Being Developed By Sweetheart Director

The Skywalker Saga may be over but that doesn't mean that we won't be getting any new Star Wars films in the future. A new report may have confirmed that a new movie is currently being developed and it could involve the director of Sweetheart.

The news comes from The Hollywood Reporter, which reveals that Sleight director J.D. Dillard is expected to team up with Agents of SHIELD's Matt Owens on a new Star Wars film. However, it has not yet been revealed whether Dillard will direct the movie or if he will simply be working with Owens on the screenplay. Likewise, there was no confirmation of whether the film will be for the big screen or will air on Disney+.

At this point, it sounds like the project is still in its early stages. There were previous reports that the new film will take place on Exegol although it has been revealed to be a rumor. Nevertheless, it's a welcome update considering that we haven't heard anything about Rian Johnson's own Star Wars trilogy or the movie that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have abandoned.

Dillard is known for his work on the survival horror film Sweetheart, which featured Kiersey Clemmons taking on a sea monster while stranded on an island. Owens has written episodes for Agents of SHIELD and Luke Cage.

The latest project from Lucasfilm and Disney is Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker which will be available on digital on March 17th and on 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD on March 31st.
