Ahead of the official Rivals of Ixalan previews, new art from the upcoming Magic: The Gathering set started popping up online after Ultra Pro product listings were sent out earlier this week. Over on Reddit, another new Rivals of Ixalan art on a deck box has been leaked, and it features a mysterious Sphinx with a beard. Check it out:

Art from RIX, the 'winged being' that stole the Immortal Sun?

Redditors started discussing theories about the new Sphinx. Many pointed out the Azorious symbol on his beard, which suggests that he could be Azor himself. According to Redditor DrLemniscate, the Sphinx confirms Azor set up Ixalan specifically as a prison for Planeswalkers. If this turns out to be true, we might eventually see some dark Planeswalkers locked away within the city. The Redditor speculates that the intrepid walkers can use it to imprison Bolas, then return after a few years to see the Elder Dragon with a new empire. As another Redditor points out, if the Sphinx in the art is actually Azor, this could two things:

A: Azor is working with Bolas
B: Azor is working against Bolas to keep him from getting the immortal sun.

That would be an interesting twist to Vraska's story. Or maybe he's just some random Sphinx.
