New Look at Brad Pitt's Sci-Fi Mystery Ad Astra

Besides starring in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Brad Pitt is set to return to the spotlight in sci-fi mystery Ad Astra. We already had our first look with the teaser trailer a while back, but 20th Century Fox has given us a new featurette.

Astronaut Roy McBride (Brad Pitt) travels to the outer edges of the solar system to find his missing father and unravel a mystery that threatens the survival of our planet. His journey will uncover secrets that challenge the nature of human existence and our place in the cosmos.

I have to say, the film definitely looks interesting, and you can see hints at other space films like 2001: A Space Oddysey, Interstellar, The Martian, and Moon. The film also promises a mystery element when it comes to the fate of McBride's father (Tommy Lee Jones), and I guess we should expect some action scenes as well.

Just in case you're curious, Ad Astra is a Latin phrase which means, "to the stars."

With Hollywood taking less and less risks when it comes to theatrical releases, it's interesting to see that we have an experimental space movie underway. We don't really know how this film is going to fare when it comes out, but I can tell you my interest is definitely piqued.

Besides Pitt and Jones, the movie also stars the likes of Liv Tyler, Ruth Negga, and Donald Sutherland.

Ad Astra is directed by James Gray and is set for a release on Sept. 20.
