New Ghostbusters Sequel Gets Support From Franchise Reboot Star

Ghostbusters fans were pretty surprised when word came out that original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman's son, Jason Reitman, would be helming a brand new sequel set in the universe of the original films. Not only was the sequel largely unexpected, but Columbia Pictures also released a brand new teaser trailer for Ghostbusters 3 a few hours after the announcement was made.

The upcoming film has sparked a wave of reactions online, and while 2016 Ghostbusters actress Leslie Jones isn't as eager about the upcoming film, Melissa McCarthy is expressing her support for Ghostbusters 3.

Speaking in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, McCarthy was asked about what she thought of the new Ghostbusters movie. Instead of reacting negatively towards the upcoming film, the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot star admitted that she's all in for the project.

"I'm for anybody who's making movies. I talked to Jason about it, he's just always had this idea, and his goes back to the world where the guys did exist and I'm like, 'I want to see that,'" McCarthy told the entertainment news outlet, "I'm all for it. I say like, 'Tell the story.'"

This might come as a surprise to some. Having Ghostbusters 3 means no sequel for the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot, yet the actress understands that having more entries in the franchise is much better for everyone who loves the Ghostbusters films.

McCarthy isn't the only one. 2016 Ghostbusters director also praised Reitman, saying that the director's support helped the reboot reach development in the first place.

Ghostbusters 3 is set to premiere on July 10, 2020.
