When The New Mutantswas delayed to next year, fans were rather surprised. Trailers had already been made and posters got people excited for a horror-themed X-Men film, so the sudden delay was sad.
Like all delays, that means reshoots are going to happen. This doesn't mean that the film is in trouble since most Hollywood projects go through them but New Mutants might be getting a huge change. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a new character is going to be inserted into the film, though no hints have been given as to who it is.
Though the film might not be in trouble, there's no doubt that the addition of a new character is a drastic change. Granted, this character might not be a part of the core cast but if he/she was vital enough to get inserted into the film via reshoots, it shows that certain plans have changed.
Once again, this might not be a bad thing. Script changes can be made for the better and there is plenty of time before the film hits theaters. The fact that the film hasn't lost its director or any of the actors is also a good sign.
The New Mutants will now be showing on February 22, 2019.
