Netflix continues its big plans to bring some of the most popular anime franchises to life with fresh live-action adaptations, with Cowboy Bebop releasing later this month, and the company working to make live-action versions of One Piece and Yu Yu Hakusho. Today, Netflix has revealed when fans can expect its live-action adaptation of Yu Yu Hakusho arrive on the streaming service.
Netflix Geeked shared the release window for the streaming giant's live-action adaptation of Yu Yu Hakusho: December 2023, so fans will have to wait about two years before they can see the story of spirit detective Yusuke Yurameshi come to life.
Created by Yoshihiro Togashi, Yu Yu Hakusho is a classic shonen manga series that was first published in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1990 with an anime adaptation being released a couple of years later. The story follows a young student named Yusuke Yurameshi, who sacrifices himself in order to save a child from being hit by a car. Yusuke becomes a ghost and is given a chance to come back to life if he completes some trials. He becomes a spirit detective as he fights supernatural threats and tries to master the power of his spirit energy. The series is famous for its Dark Tournament Saga as Yusuke and his powerful team of Hiei, Kurama, Kuwabara, and Genkai battle against other supernatural teams.
Although the casting news hasn't been confirmed yet, Takumi Kitamura, who plays Takemichi Hanegaki from the Tokyo Revengers movie, was seen playing Yusuke Urameshi in Netflix's live-action adaptation of Yu Yu Hakusho.
Netflix's live-action adaptation of Yu Yu Hakusho will be a joint production of Netflix, ROBOT, and TOHO, and will be executive produced by Kazutaka Sakomoto (Devilman Crybaby) and produced by Teru Morii. For more details about Netflix's Yu Yu Hakusho, check out everything you need to know here.
