If you've been missing the Bone comic series, you're in for a treat. Netflix has just announced that it will launch a new animated series based on Jeff Smith's beloved comics.
The announcement comes from Deadline, which confirms that Smith will be involved in the kids' animated show based on his graphic novels. Smith will help animate the series, which he is understandably excited to work on.
"I've waited a long time for this," Smith said in a statement. "Netflix is the perfect home for Bone. Fans of the books know that the story develops chapter-by-chapter and book-by-book. An animated series is exactly the way to do this! The team at Netflix understands Bone and is committed to doing something special — this is good news for kids and cartoon lovers all over the world."
"A long time" is an understatement for Bone fans, especially since the property had been waiting for more than a decade in the Warner Bros. lot. The studio acquired the property back in 2008 but failed to make anything happen. Hopefully, with Netflix and Smith on board, the animated series will bring Bone to a new generation of fans.
Bone follows the adventures of the Bone cousins known as Fone Bone, Phoney Bone, and Smiley Bone through an uncharted desert where they come across strange creatures. It ran from 1991 to 2004 before becoming the launch title of Scholastic's Graphix Books.
