Netflix Will Introduce Mobile-Only Plan to More Countries Soon

It looks like Netflix has found a new way to reach a wider audience. A new report reveals that the streaming giant will be introducing a more affordable mobile-only plan in more countries soon.

Back in mid-2019, Netflix introduced the mobile-only subscription plan in India, which only costs $2.99 (199 rupees) per month. With this plan, subscribers are only able to stream movies and shows through their devices. Although it's a limited option, the plan was an instant hit in India and Netflix launched a similar subscription in Malaysia for $4. Again, it was a huge success and the streaming service has now decided to introduce the option to more countries.

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings was recently in attendance at a conference in Delhi, India where he spoke about the plans (via The Hollywood Reporter). Although Hastings didn't specify the new countries where the mobile-only subscription will be made available, there is a possibility that Netflix will be targetting more Asian countries.

"If we have amazing content from around the world, people are willing to pay for that," Hastings stated. "In the U.S., cable television costs about $75. Here [in India] it's about $3-$5. In the U.S., people pay $50 for mobile phone access. Pricing is very low here, and the market is very large. That's why our 199 rupees a month [mobile-only] pricing is very competitive."

We're loving the idea that the mobile-only subscription could soon be hitting new markets. For now, the final list of countries has not yet been revealed. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
