Netflix Announces Stranger Things Stage Play’s Official Name and Plot Details

A while ago, we learned that Netflix and the Duffer Brothers were working on a stage play set in the world of Stranger Things. During that time, the details were scarce except that the creators behind the series are involved in its conception and it is set to be an expansion of the franchise.

Now, Netflix has finally revealed the official title and plot details of the stage play as well as its premiere window. The play titled Stranger Things: The First Shadow is set to have its world premiere at the Phoenix Theatre in London's West End in late 2023.

The Duffer Brothers, Kate Trefry, and Jack Thorne are the minds behind the stage play's story. It will be directed by Tony Award winner Stephen Daldry with co-direction by Justin Martin. Tickets will be on sale this spring.

They also revealed that the story of the stage play will be set in Hawkins, 1959, and center around the younger versions of Joyce Byers, Jim Hopper, Bob Newby, and Henry Creel (aka Vecna).

The plot synopsis reads: "Hawkins, 1959: a regular town with regular worries. Hopper’s car won’t start, Bob’s sister won’t take his radio show seriously and Joyce just wants to get out as soon as she can. When new student Henry Creel and his family arrive, they find a fresh start isn’t that easy… and the shadows of the past have a very long reach."

"Brought to life by a multi-award-winning creative team, who take theatrical storytelling and stagecraft to a whole new dimension, this gripping new adventure will take you right back to the beginning of the Stranger Things story — and to the beginning of the end."

It is definitely exciting to see that the Stranger Things stage play is coming later this year which is a good appetizer for fans as they're waiting for the fifth season which will begin filming this year as well. It would be interesting to see whether they will do the production in other countries worldwide so that fans outside the UK can get a peek at it.
