Netflix has kind of been notorious for series revivals, and one show that managed to captivate audiences was the reboot of Lost in Space. What's interesting is, the streaming service has renewed the show for a third and final season.
Here's the official announcement:
Talking to Deadline, showrunner Zack Estrin has confirmed that they always viewed the series as a trilogy. He says, "From the beginning, we've always viewed this particular story of The Robinsons as a trilogy… A three-part epic family adventure with a clear beginning, middle, and end. It's also worth noting that, with what these characters go through just trying to survive each episode — if anyone deserves to catch their breath before their next mission — it's Will, Penny, Judy, Maureen, John, Don West, Dr. Smith… and The Robot. And, of course, Debbie the Chicken."
Though this will be the end of Lost in Space, Estrin is still going to ‘explore new stories' with Netflix, so we shouldn't be too bummed out.
The first season of Lost in Space was actually met with high praise, and it was considered one of the most-watched shows on Netflix when it launches back in 2018. The second season, however, was said to have a lackluster opening. Hopefully, this third season will manage to captivate audiences once more and give a fitting end to this iteration of the Robinson family.
The third and final season of Lost in Space arrives in 2021. You can catch the first two seasons now streaming on Netflix.
