Netflix Receives Legal Complaint Against Offensive Joke From Problematic Series

Netflix has been having trouble on their streaming platform. Not only have they found themselves lacking quality series amid their multiple cancellations spree, but now they have received a legal notice from a political analyst due to a derogatory joke still present in one of the most problematic sitcom series on Netflix.

The Big Bang Theory is no stranger when it comes to being a problematic brand of comedy in spite of its iconic scenes most commonly used in memes. However, it doesn’t change the fact that its divisive comedy still stands offensive in today’s times. This is what Mithun Vijay Kumar took to Twitter, publicizing his legal notice to Netflix to request the removal of one particular episode from the sitcom. Check out the full tweet below:

For context, the episode in question is on The Big Bang Theory Season 2 titled ‘The Bad Fish Paradigm’ in which Raj, who was played by Kunal Nayyar, said: “Aishwarya Rai is a goddess, by comparison, Madhuri Dixit is a leprous prostitute.” Kumar pointed out his disturbance from the “offensive” and “derogatory” term used against the legendary Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit.

Unfortunately, not many people seem to side with his legal notice to Netflix, in spite of outrightly pointing out in the tweet that “It’s important to hold media companies accountable for the content they distribute, and I hope that @NetflixIndia will take this matter seriously.”

Even the people on Twitter quoted back at the sender for “getting triggered over a 2008 Sitcom episode” and for “not realizing that The Big Bang Theory is not a Netflix production”, which Kumar sensibly replied with: “When would people like you realize streaming platforms, too, have a responsibility?”

This matter has yet to be addressed by Netflix nor any of the cast members from The Big Bang Theory, and it remains to be uncertain if they would, sooner or later.

Meanwhile, you can still check out all episodes of The Big Bang Theory available to stream on Netflix.
