Netflix is Now More Popular Than Broadcast, Cable, Youtube for TV Viewing, According to Survey

Netflix is now the #1 option for TV viewing, according to a survey of 2,500 adults in the U.S.

As Variety reports, the financial service company called Cowen Group asked individuals, "Which platforms do you use most often to view video content on TV?" Netflix was the winner as it got 27% of the vote, followed by basic cable at 20%.

The disparity is greater if you look at the data from the adults in the 18-34 range.

Below, you'll see the complete list of the preferred video content platforms from the survey of adults 18-34 years of age.

Netflix (39.7%)
YouTube (17.0%)
Basic Cable (12.6%)
Other (8.7%)
Hulu (7.6%)
Broadcast (7.5%)
Premium Cable (3.5%)
Amazon Prime Video (3.4%)

This isn't surprising. In recent years, we've seen a rise of Netflix original titles and the quality of shows they release are much better than a lot of shows available only on cable. The streaming service may not have Game of Thrones or other popular anime shows but Netflix has a lot of fantastic original titles worth binge-watching. Earlier this year, the company promised that it would have 1,000 original programs by the end of 2018.
