It was announced last year that Netflix was working on a live-action adaptation of classic anime Cowboy Bebop, and the assumption was that the movie was going to release later this year. However, it looks like the streaming service has delayed the production.
According to Discussing Film, Cowboy Bebop is now set to start filming this July, which means that the series could debut sometime late 2020. We don't have a reason yet for the delay, but hopefully this just means that Netflix is making sure that they adapt the material right. After all, the brand is getting bashed for their less than stellar anime adaptations. Everyone is still trying to forget the live-action Death Note.
For now, a lot of fans are still remaining skeptical about a live-action Cowboy Bebop. The anime is regarded as one of the best ever made, and judging by the specific look of that world, I wonder how they can pull it off with a TV budget.
If anything, this series needs to have Disney money to have a look that can compete with what came before it. Disney is spending more than $100 million on Star Wars: The Mandalorian. You think Netflix will be able to pump out the same cash for Cowboy Bebop? Hell, fans are still wondering about how they plan to make another live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series.
With the property having undergone development for a really long time, I guess fans could afford to wait a bit more. After all, if Cowboy Bebop wants to break barriers when it comes to live-action anime adaptations, they're going to need plenty of time.
No release date has been set for Netflix's Cowboy Bebop.
