Netflix Confirms Sandman Series With Official Episode Count And Synopsis

Yesterday, word came out that Netflix was reportedly planning to adapt Neil Gaiman's Sandman graphic novels into a live-action series.

Now, it seems like the rumors have finally been revealed to be true. Netflix has just issued a press release, confirming that it has officially ordered a live-action series based on Gaiman's critically acclaimed comic book series, The Sandman.

According to the press release, Allan Heinberg is being brought on to serve as The Sandman's writer, executive producer, and showrunner while Gaiman is being set to write and executive produce the series together with David S. Goyer.

Right now, Netflix has ordered ten episodes of The Sandman, though it seems like the streaming giant also has one additional episode for the show. The pilot is to be co-written by Heinberg, Goyer, and of course, Gaiman.

For those who aren't familiar with the comic book series, The Sandman follows the adventures of Morpheus or Dream, one of the seven Endless. The series is well known for its use of anthropomorphic personification of metaphysical entities and concepts, blending together mythology, pop culture and history in a setting built within the DC Universe. A critically acclaimed series, The Sandman became one of the first few graphic novels to make it to New York Times' best seller list.

Here's Netflix's official summery of its adaptation of The Sandman:

"A rich blend of modern myth and dark fantasy in which contemporary fiction, historical drama and legend are seamlessly interwoven,TheSandmanfollows the people and places affected by Morpheus, the Dream King, as he mends the cosmic--and human--mistakes he's made during his vast existence."

Gaiman's fans are definitely going to go wild over the news. The Sandman is one of Gaiman's best works and it's going to be exciting seeing the series make its way to Netflix.

The Sandman has yet to receive a release date but we'll update everyone as soon as we get word.
