Netflix Celebrates Iconic Dystopian Franchise Premiere By Adding Entire Series on Streaming Platform

Netflix has just surprised movie fans by adding the entire The Hunger Games franchise on their streaming platform ahead of the beginning of March. While The Hunger Games was not on their initial full list of movies and TV shows arriving this March, it’s certainly timely considering that the first The Hunger Games film was released on March 23, 2012.

Apart from celebrating its 11th anniversary, Suzanne Collins’ spinoff, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, is also nearing its premiere date, which is slated for its theatrical release this year in November! The streaming platform has basically given their subscribers the chance to revisit one of the most iconic dystopian scifi series before they get to watch the premiere of the franchise spinoff.

While the franchise focused on Katniss Everdeen’s story on reclaiming the glory for District 12, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is a prequel that follows the story of a young Coriolanus Snow and the story of Lucy Gray Baird, District 12’s female tribute and first champion, as mentioned by Katniss in the first Hunger Games novel.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is being helmed once again by franchise director Francis Lawrence, working alongside script writers Michael Arndt and Michael Leslie. The role of Lucy Gray Baird will be played by Shazam! Fury of the Gods star Rachel Zegler, and the young Coriolanus Snow being portrayed by Tom Blyth.

Prior to the hit of the Hunger Games films, these were but young adult novels written by American author Suzanne Collins, and on the verge of its widespread popularity and near-instant hit, multiple production companies had reached out to the author to produce the novels into a trilogy, until Lionsgate eventually acquired the rights, deeming Jennifer Lawrence as the face of the franchise.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is currently slated to premiere on November 17 this year. For now, you can binge the entire The Hunger Games franchise on Netflix for the next 31 days.
