After Game of Thrones ended last year, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss (or as the fandom calls them, D&D) were ready to take on their next project. After things fell through with Lucasfilm and their Star Wars project, we finally have an official announcement for their collaboration with Netflix.

As revealed by Netflix, D&D will be teaming up with Alexander Woo for an adaptation of Liu Cixin's sci-fi series, The Three-Body Problem. Here's the post:

Benioff and Weiss had said in a statement (via The Playlist):

"Liu Cixin's trilogy is the most ambitious science-fiction series we've read, taking readers on a journey from the 1960s until the end of time, from life on our pale blue dot to the distant fringes of the universe… We look forward to spending the next years of our lives bringing this to life for audiences around the world."

What's also interesting is that Rian Johnson (Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Knives Out) and his producing partner Ram Bergman are also attached to Three-Body Problem as executive producer. Author Cixin and the book's English translater Ken Liu are also attached as consulting producers.

Admittedly, D&D has not been the shining example, good storytellers, thanks to the poor reception of the final season of Game of Thrones. Add to that, their other HBO show, Confederate, wasn't picked up, and they had also been dropped by Lucasfilm. Nevertheless, this looks to be a new start for the creative duo. Let's just hope that the angry Game of Thrones fandom won't ruin the reception of this show, seeing as they are still actively hating on D&D after all these months.

No release date has been announced for Netflix's The Three-Body Problem.
