Netflix Announces New Cyberpunk Anime Spinoff from Studio Trigger

A lot of fans are excited for CD Projekt Red's next big game, Cyberpunk 2077, but the world is so huge and expansive that multiple spinoffs are being produced including a comic. Now Studio Trigger (Kill La Kill, Darling in the Franxx) has announced that they will be making an anime spinoff called Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

Here's the description:

CYBERPUNK: EDGERUNNERS tells a standalone, 10-episode story about a street kid trying to survive in a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future. Having everything to lose, he chooses to stay alive by becoming an edgerunner—a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.

I have to say, I'm very excited to see what Trigger has to bring to the table, seeing as they're a studio that has one of the most unique voices in anime today. I've always considered their aesthetic kind of ‘cartoony', and I'm excited to see how that translated into a property like Cyberpunk.

Sadly, we don't get to see any clips of the anime, but we do have the teaser poster which already has that mix of Trigger/CD Projekt Red. As someone who isn't so keen on open-world games, I have to honestly say I'm more excited to get a look at this world via the anime, and I'm hoping we can get our first look before the game releases.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is set to come out on Netflix sometime in 2022, but the game Cyberpunk 2077 is going to release on Nov. 19.
