There is much excitement about Good Omens now that the series already has an official premiere date. However, that doesn't mean that Neil Gaiman will cease from teasing some interesting new details about the highly anticipated show. The American Gods author has revealed how different David Tennant's portrayal of Crowley will be from the novel.
Gaiman actually revealed quite a lot during the Good Omens panel at TCA 19. One of the curious details shared during the panel was the decision to give Crowley an English accent. Tennant pointed out that this is part of the book, but Gaiman wanted to pose a new challenge for the former Doctor Who actor.
"Neil Gaiman was excited to take 'the premier Welsh actor of his generation' and 'the premier Scottish actor of his generation' and make them be English," Variety reported. Michael Sheen, who plays Aziraphale in the series, is Welsh while Tennant is Scottish. Nevertheless, they do a really good job of playing English.
It was also revealed that Nick Offerman was not the original choice to play the American ambassador who is the father of the wrong Antichrist. Unfortunately, the first actor had to leave the series because of a family tragedy. Not surprisingly, Offerman immediately agreed to take over and buy his own plane ticket.
Perhaps the coolest revelation during the panel was that Benedict Cumberbatch would provide the voice of Satan in Good Omens. Gaiman stated that the character required someone who could give Frances McDormand (who voices God) "a run for her money." The natural choice was none other than Smaug himself.
Good Omens will premiere on Amazon Prime on May 31.
