Neil Gaiman On The Odds Of A Sandman Movie Getting Developed

It's been a while since we've heard about a Sandman movie being developed, but now it looks like Neil Gaiman believes that the odds of the comic series making its way to the big screen are only getting better and better as time passes by.

Gaiman recently attended a panel at the South by Southwest Festival for his upcoming Amazon series Good Omens (based on the novel of the same name written both by the author and by Terry Pratchett), and during his discussion with fans, the writer decided to address the possibility of The Sandman dark fantasy comic book series getting its own film or television adaptation.

Though the project hasn't been picked up by any studio yet, Gaiman believes that The Sandman will make its way to the big screen soon, though ultimately, it is a decision that is completely out of his hands.

"The Endless are owned by DC Comics/Time Warner and not by me," Gaiman said during the panel. "I think as the days go on, as the years go on, the probability that a Sandman thing will happen, obviously, increase continually. But I have no say in anything."

For those who aren't familiar with Sandman, the comics series was first published by DC Comics in 1989 and started as a DC/Vertigo title. Sandman focuses on Dream of the Endless, a powerful entity who looks over the realm of dreams and imagination. It was the very first graphic novel series to appear on the New York Times' list of best sellers and has since become one of the go-to novels of DC's Vertigo imprint.

Amazon's Good Omens premieres on May 31.
