Natalie Portman has cemented herself as one of Hollywood's most bankable actors but we can all agree that Star Wars was her true ticket to fame. Now, you would think that before getting cast as Padme Amidala in the prequel trilogy, Portman was a bonafide follower of the franchise but turns out, she wasn't.

Natalie admits that while she was aware of Star Wars' existence, it wasn't something she watched as a child and she only got into the films the moment she landed her prequel trilogy role.

Speaking with Radio Times magazine (via Female First), the Oscar-winning actress revealed that she didn't watch Star Wars prior to her prequel trilogy casting. Despite that, the franchise has always been on her radar because of American culture.

Portman shared: "I didn't know the films at all before I was cast! I was aware of the lingo, as American culture is so immersed in Star Wars."

The Marvel actor added: "Even if you've never seen the movies, you know what Princess Leia buns are, what a lightsaber is, what a Jedi is, you know who Yoda and Obi-Wan are... you know all these words and names before you even see the films. But I only saw the films when I was approached to do them."

It's been close to a decade since we last saw Portman in Star Wars and according to her, she'd be down to reprising her role given the opportunity. Considering her prequel contemporaries Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christen returned to the franchise, there's a good chance we'll see Padme too, even if it's just for a cameo appearance.
