Legendary is apparently working on a live-action My Hero Academia movie and we're all wondering why Disney hasn't given us a second Sky High movie. Seriously, they're basically the same thing but Disney's film actually came out first and can be fleshed out better in a sequel or a reboot. Sadly, Disney doesn't seem to be interested in that franchise so Legendary is going to disgrace a beloved shonen manga/anime.
Variety confirmed that the project is underway and that there is currently a skeleton crew working on the movie. It's also worth noting that Legendary is working on a Detective Pikachu movie, which actually has talented people behind it so let's hope they get that one right.
Admittedly, we might be overly negative about the upcoming My Hero movie but when you consider how great the manga and anime are, expectations are high. Add the abysmal track record Hollywood has with live-action anime movies like Death Note and Ghost in the Shell, it's easy to see why everyone is going to be skeptical about it.
If they decide to focus on original characters who are influenced by the ones from the anime, it might work out for the best. My Hero Academia is clearly based on Western superhero comics so this could end up being better than expected. As long as a white guy isn't cast as Midoriya, Bakugo, or the countless other characters in the series, things might be fine.
