February is almost at an end, and a month from now will see the release of Disney's live-action Mulan. Just in, we have a new Poweful TV spot, and it gives a good look at the action setpieces in the movie.
We all know about the scene where Mulan gets rid of an army of Huns on the snowy mountain, but it looks like there's going to be some kind of variation when it comes to the film. While the reveal of her womanhood is shown after the battle, it looks like she's going to be unveiling herself during the fight, and we see her kicking ass with a sword and a bow.
The movie had been plagued with controversy for a while, from Liu Yifei showing her support to the Hong Kong police to the fans being outraged that the songs have been removed from the movie. Either way, it still looks like a lot of people are excited for the movie, so we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
Personally, I have my own reservations. I'm fine with the movie taking some risks, but I kind of hate how Mulan is now a formidable warrior in the film. The whole point of the original cartoon was that Mulan got ahead with her smarts, and not just because she was able to out-man all the other men. But who knows, maybe this film will keep that feminist message, but so far, I'm not seeing any proof that that's the case.
Catch Mulan when it hits theaters March 27.
