Ms. Marvel Episode 2 Reveals Why Kamala's Family Moved to the US
Ms. Marvel Episode 2 has been on point in all aspects when it comes to authenticity. The MCU remains true to their promise of diversification and representation and they are nailing it in this show. Other than showcasing the colorful culture of Kamala’s heritage, the series also tackles its difficulties like Nakia’s moving speech on wearing a hijab.
More than that, Ms. Marvel Episode 2 also reveals how familial relationships play a big part of the identity of a person and how it affects them even when they had nothing to do with the mistakes of the past.
Ms. Marvel Episode 2 finally shed light on why Muneeba, the mother of Kamala Khan, opted to live in the US rather than stay in Pakistan. Her family has been tainted by something like a red on their ledger, Aisha, the great-grandmother of Kamala, and even until the present, they still carry with them the disgrace that Aisha brought to their family.
According to the stories of Yusuf, Kamala’s father, over dinner, about what happened during the Partition of India, Sana, the grandmother of Kamala, was just a toddler when she got separated from her father who was severely injured. It was said that Sana reunited with her father by following the trail of stars.
As for Sana’s mother, Aisha, she disappeared that day, never to be found again. During the celebration of the Eid Mubarak, Kamala asks Muneeba about her great-grandmother Aisha but she utterly dismisses Kamala saying that Aisha brought shame to their family that she had to move halfway across the world to run away from that.
Kamala bonded with the Illumi-Aunties at the Eid to learn more about Aisha and they had nothing good to say about her. As it turns out, a lot of gossip circulated about Aisha being a snake, having an affair, and even killing a man.
Even when Muneeba never knew Aisha personally, she carried with her the difficulty of being in the same lineage that she had to reintroduce herself to a new place halfway across the globe. As family plays a huge role in Kamala being a superhero, her ties to Aisha could either make it or break it for her especially now that she knows that the bangle belonged to Aisha.
Will Kamala be able to reconcile the past of Aisha with her present as a superhero?
Ms. Marvel Episode 2 is now streaming on Disney Plus.
