It goes without saying that Tom Holland has become the definitive version of Spider-Man and while Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield still have their respective fanbases, the Marvel Cinematic Universe fandom agrees that Holland is the only actor who can portray the hero in Earth-616.

Holland has done pretty well with the character and as it stands, he’s already appeared in five MCU projects and it doesn’t stop there with Spider-Man 4 currently in the works.

These days, it’s hard to imagine someone else playing the dual role of Peter Parker and Spider-Man but it turns out, the British star wasn’t the only actor in contention for the role.

We’ve heard rumblings in the past about Timothée Chalamet auditioning for the role but we’ve never confirmed whether or not he was actually a top contender to become MCU Spidey.

Well, apparently, aside from Chalamet, another actor tried out for the part and according to him, he was once in heavy consideration to play the role of the web-slinger.

MCU newcomer Matt Lintz, who stars in Ms. Marvel as Bruno Carrelli recently told Insider that he nearly played Spidey in the franchise but at the time, the odds were in Tom’s corner.

He reveals: "I was in the top for Spider-Man, which eventually went to this guy, Tom Holland. I don't know if you know who he is. He's such an amazing person and an actor and it seems like life has come full circle."

Lintz may have lost the coveted role to Holland but it turned out in the end that fate had different plans for him. He’s doing an amazing job as Kamala Khan’s righthand man/secret admirer so I guess it’s still a win for him.

Ms. Marvel is streaming on Disney+.
