Amazon has been working on a TV series adaptation of the 2005 blockbuster Mr. and Mrs. Smith, the action-comedy movie that infamously ignited the romance between Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt and became the biggest celebrity tabloid story of that year.
Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge were originally attached to play the titular pair before the latter exited the project and was replaced by Maya Erskine. Glover also serves as the co-creator of the series.
Now, we finally have our very first look at the highly-anticipated TV series.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith TV Series Releases Official Trailer
Prime Video has released the official trailer for Mr. and Mrs. Smith which gave us our first look at the globe-throttling action-comedy series that put a new spin on the 2005 film.
In this version, Glover and Erskine are playing two lonely strangers who became spies and are assigned by the agency to pretend as the married couple Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Smith for their high-risk mission.
The pair's complex cover story also becomes complicated as the two slowly catch real feelings for each other.
It is different from the original film which had the premise of a long-time married couple who, unbeknownst to each other, are also assassins working for their respective adversarial agencies.
Aside from previewing the globe-throttling action set pieces that Glover and Erskine will face, they also gave us a peek at the star-studded guest stars that are appearing in the series such as Paul Dano, John Turturro, Alexander Skarsgard, Sarah Paulson, Ron Perlman, and many more.
The footage that they showed here looks promising since it feels very different from the original film and they found a way to make the concept appealing to the contemporary audience who might be interested to see this new take.
As long as Glover and Erskine have great chemistry together, the series has huge potential to be a hit on the streamer and a favorite amongst viewers.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith is set to premiere on Prime Video on February 2, 2024 with all eight episodes of the first season.
