NetherRealm is gearing up for the return of Mortal Kombat this year, but we didn't know that WB Animation is now working on an actual movie.
According to Revenge of the Fans, the same guys behind the animated DC films are also working on bringing the world of Mortal Kombat to the small screen. We don't have too many details on the film yet, but the biggest star attached to the film is Joel McHale (Community). What are the odds that he's voicing Johnny Cage?
Besides McHale, the film will also include voices from actors such as Jennifer Carpenter, Fred Tatasciore, Kevin Michael Richardson, Patrick Seitz, Robin Atkin Downes, Darin DePaul, and Steve Blum.
With WB Animation mostly working on DC films, it's nice to see that they're working on something as big as Mortal Kombat. Though there is said to be an attempt to get a live-action film off the ground, it looks like MK will just have to settle for an animated movie. I'm just curious if WB is willing to get as violent as the actual game series.
Now that I think of it, MK and DC are kind of linked in a way that most people have forgotten. Besides that old crossover game Mortal Kombat vs. DC, NetherRealm has mostly been working on either MK or Injustice with Injustice pretty much playing like an MK game. It was only a matter of time before WB Animation decided to work on Mortal Kombat.
No release date has been set for the animated Mortal Kombat movie, but I'm guessing it could be out sometime in 2020.
