Mortal Kombat 11 Reveal to Include Live Stage Show with Special Effects

NetherRealm Studios is set to make a big reveal for Mortal Kombat 11 within the week, and game director Ed Boon teases that the studio is going to make a huge event out of it, saying there'll be a live-action performance with special effects and whatnot.

This is his tweet:

Now the post may seem like some kind of sarcastic joke, but as it stands, the announcement seems legit. It's been four years since the release of the last Mortal Kombat game. It would make sense that NetherRealm would make a whole deal of it. After all, it is the franchise that's at the very core of the studio.

With Mortal Kombat X seemingly introducing a new generation of characters, I wonder what this sequel is going to build up to. So far we've had a look at Raiden and two different Scorpions. Is the game going to be playing with multiverses again? Don't tell me they're going to do another DC crossover.

So far the only characters we've seen out of the game are from the original, with Shao Khan also coming out as a pre-order bonus. While I'm always happy to see updated versions of classic characters, I wonder just how long NetherRealm has before they have to start pulling new tricks just to keep the franchise alive.

Mortal Kombat 11 will be available for Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Nintendo Switch, and it's aiming for a release on April 13.
