Mortal Instruments’ Godfrey Gao Dies on the Set of Chinese Reality Show

The tragic news comes out today as Taiwanese-Canadian actor Godfrey Gao had collapsed and died on the set of a Chinese reality show.

According to The Guardian, a 35-year-old Gao had collapsed on the set of Chase Me, a competitive sports reality show that some compare to Ninja Warrior. It was said that Gao had fallen to the ground while filming, and medical experts were able to confirm that he suffered a sudden heart attack.

What's kind of worse is, news is coming out that members of the audience had noticed that something was wrong with Gao early on, and he was saying "I can't go on anymore," moments before he collapsed. The crew was said to have thought that Gao was exaggerating his fatigue for the camera; it was not until co-actor Johnny Huang yelled for a doctor that everyone realized it was serious.

This is certainly troubling news, seeing that the actor was only 35 when he passed. With the rumor going around that he collapsed after a 17-hour shoot, some are calling out the studio for gross negligence.

Though Gao has starred in multiple local TV series, probably his biggest acting credit comes from the Hollywood film The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones where he played Magnus Bane. Besides all that, Gao was said to be the first-ever Asian model to be signed by Louis Vuitton back in 2011.

This is certainly a tragedy for fans of Gao, and hopefully, we get more updates on what exactly happened soon.
