Morbius Star Blames COVID-19 for Editing Problems

Morbius was one of the most delayed films in the past few years and some believe that it had an effect on the movie. Fans have pointed out that the film wasn't edited properly despite the long wait for it. However, Al Madrigal insists that COVID-19 was to blame for the movie's poor editing.

Al Madrigal played Alberto "Al" Rodriguez in Morbius and he is truly proud of what the movie has achieved. While speaking to ComicBookMovie, Madrigal pointed out that the film is not "as bad as everybody is making it out to be" and that the issues with editing were brought about by COVID-19.

"Sure, it had problems and they diced it up quite a bit. I had some hilarious lines that were cut out of that movie. I was very funny," Madrigal said. He then revealed how this happened.

"In London, when you shoot, they do a halfway party exactly midway through the film and there’s a big blowout. Editors came up to me. A gaggle of them came up and said, ‘Oh my God, we see everything you’re doing. All the subtle stuff. All of the jokes.’ I got to improvise through that freely," Madrigal said.

He then stated that his character suffered when there was too much time spent on editing.

"If they’d left in just 50% more of my stuff. I got butchered in that thing. I think that’s what they did," Madrigal said. "Because of COVID, they just had so much time to mess with it. They really messed with it."

Morbius follows Dr. Michael Morbius, a man suffering from a rare blood disorder. In an effort to save himself and others afflicted by the disease, Michael makes a decision that causes drastic changes in his body. Will his new condition get the better of him or can Michael become the hero he hopes he could be?

The movie stars Jared Leto, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Matt Smith, Tyrese Gibson, Al Madrigal, Corey Johnson, Archie Renaux, and Michael Keaton. Morbius is now screening in theaters in the US and Canada.
