Moon Knight: Ethan Hawke Initially Unsure About Playing MCU Villain

We already know that Ethan Hawke is playing the Big Bad in Moon Knight and it was even confirmed that Oscar Isaac somehow convinced the Magnificent Seven star to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe series. However, it wasn't an easy decision to make for Hawke who has just admitted that he was initially unsure about playing a villain in a comic book show!

It was previously reported that Ethan Hawke agreed to join the MCU after Oscar Isaac approached him about the role. Despite that story, Hawke has told Entertainment Weekly he put a lot of thought into playing a bad guy since it's a role you can't easily escape.

"I've always had this theory that when you teach an audience how to see the demon inside you, they don't unsee it for the rest of your career. Jack Nicholson can be playing an accountant and you're still waiting for him to explode like he did in The Shining. It changes your relationship to a performer, so I've always been nervous about it," Hawke said. He then added that he has reconsidered the idea.

"But I realized I'm on the other side of 50 and it's time to put a new tool in the tool kit. Villains might be my future," Hawke stated before confessing that "the comic book world meant a lot to me when I was younger" and playing a supervillain would be huge.

"I was always a little apprehensive; there's a certain kind of actor that really excels in that universe, and I'm still not sure I'm one of them. But then Oscar asked me, and I really respect him. And I knew that if he went in, he was going to go all in, and it's fun to do any genre with people who are all in," Hawke said.

Ethan Hawke's mysterious villain was finally revealed in the Moon Knight trailer and there is little doubt that we'll learn more about Arthur Harrow soon.

Moon Knight will premiere on Disney+ on March 30, 2022.
