It has been nearly eight years since the first movie, and finally, the Moana sequel’s trailer is here. The excitement for the new film was so big that the Moana 2 trailer broke a major Disney record, meaning this new movie beat Frozen and Inside Out.
While the film isn’t out yet, it already has the makings of a huge box-office hit. This is based on how many people watched the film’s trailer as soon as it dropped.
Moana 2 Trailer Breaks Major Disney Record
A report by Deadline revealed that Moana 2 is now Disney’s most-watched trailer for an anime movie based on data during the first 24 hours.
To be exact, Moana 2’s trailer got 178 million views in 24 hours. This is based on views from various platforms, including YouTube, X, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat.
The previous record holder was Inside Out 2, which got 157 million views in the same time frame. For reference, the hyped Frozen 2 got 116 million views in 24 hours.
Trailer views aren’t the biggest predictor of a film’s box office numbers, but it should be safe to say that there’s a lot of excitement for this movie—impressive given how long it has been since the first one.
Moana fans don’t only have this new animated film to look forward to, though, as Disney is also working on a live-action version, with Dwayne Johnson set to reprise his role as Maui.

Moana 2 Finally Shares First Look in New Trailer
Moana 2’s trailer is fairly short, but it does feature a lot of dazzling visuals. It also sets up a new adventure for Moana who will be joined once again by Maui.
In this film, Moana receives a call from her ancestors, and thus, she sets out on another journey through Oceania, reconnecting with the other peoples of the region.
During her journey, Maui won’t be the only friend she’ll get help from, as the film promises to introduce new characters.
When Is Moana 2 Coming to Cinemas?
It has been a long time coming, but finally, Moana 2 is set to be released in cinemas on November 27, 2024.
Initially, this film was conceived as a Disney+ original, though Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed in February that it has been reworked as a theatrical film.
Ahead of the show’s theatrical release, a sneak peek at the movie will be shared at the upcoming 2024 Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
