Mission Impossible Director Open to Taking On a Star Trek Film

Director Chris McQuarrie was the talk of the town when Mission Impossible: Fallout came out earlier this year, and a lot of people have started to wonder what he'll be doing next. As it turns out, McQuarrie is very open to helming a franchise that boldly goes where no one has gone before.

Talking to Forbes, McQuarrie has said that he's very interested in helming a Star Trek movie down the line. He explains:

"Star Trek is another one of those doors I mentioned, if that door opened I would gladly go through it. I am a huge fan of Star Trek. I grew up on Star Trek,The Wrath of Khan is one of my favorite movies of all time, but we haven't really talked about it because we've been so busy with the work in front of us."

As of now, the fourth Star Trek movie is having a hard time getting off the ground, with reports even saying that lead man Chris Pine is planning on leaving the captain's chair. The movie did get some sort of traction when it was announced that Quentin Tarantino wanted to come onboard, but for now, he's busy working on his next film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Seeing that McQuarrie did some fantastic work with the MI franchise, I think Paramount would be eager to have him on board to direct Trek. Hopefully, by that time Chris Pine will have changed his mind and would have decided to come back as Captain Kirk.

And while we're at it, maybe they can bring back Chris Hemsworth as well.

Star Trek 4 has not been officially announced.
