Mission: Impossible Director Christopher McQuarrie Still Interested in Directing a Star Wars Movie

Mission: Impossible director Christopher McQuarrie was once interested in helming a Star Wars movie, but the filmmaker found himself fazed by angry Star Wars fans who couldn't help but attack the cast and crew of Star Wars: The Last Jedi after the film subverted fan expectations and allegedly "misused" legacy characters.

Now, it seems like the director wants to join the galaxy far, far away again.

A fan just recently tagged McQuarrie in a tweet saying that he'd like to see the filmmaker direct a Star Wars movie, and the director wasn't afraid to oblige.

"They know where to find me," McQuarrie replied on Twitter.

You can check out the tweet down here:

We don't know what made McQuarrie change his mind, but there's a lot of room for the director in the Star Wars franchise. Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss just recently decided to exit from their upcoming Star Wars trilogy so that they could focus on their deal with Netflix. Perhaps McQuarrie could take their place. Or, he could make his own new trilogy if he'd like. There are many different stories that the director could explore.

Now that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is making its big debut, Star Wars will be heading to a direction outside of the Skywalker saga. That opens up the playground for all of the franchise's future directors.

It might take some time before McQuarrie gets the chance to head to the galaxy far, far away though. After all, the director has two more Mission: Impossible movies to direct. Let's just wait and see whether McQuarrie really does find himself working on a Star Wars movie soon.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is set to premiere on December 20, 2019.
