Michael Douglas Hasn't Seen Captain America: Civil War

It can't be emphasized enough but Ant-Man and The Wasp was the palette cleanser fans needed after Avengers: Infinity War broke the hearts of many. While the mid-credits scene did eventually tie-in to Infinity War, the two-plus hours beforehand was fun, action-packed, and hilarious. The film had plenty of bright spots, one of which was Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, who continues to be one of the best actors in Hollywood today.

Douglas performed admirably throughout the film, so it's actually a bit shocking to know that he did not watch Captain America: Civil War before getting ready for the Ant-Man sequel. When you consider how crucial that movie was to Ant-Man and The Wasp, it makes his great performance all the more shocking.

As he explained to MTV News, Douglas wasn't told beforehand to watch the movie, though the people in production had assumed that he did. This resulted in him getting confused when reading the script since he wondered how the events of the first Ant-Man lead to the massive status quo change seen in the sequel. It's one of the many reasons why cinematic universes can be a burden to watch, even if they're great.

"I never read a comic book in my life. I'm so grateful that they brought me into this family. I did a little bit of homework on the Ant-Man — I really screwed up because they didn't tell me when we started that I should go see Captain America. Because if I saw Captain America then I would understand what Ant-Man, Paul Rudd, had done in there and why. So when I read the script for this, I had no idea what was going on. And then finally the director, Peyton Reed, said, ‘Well, he's been in Captain America.' I said, ‘I didn't see Captain America.' And he looked at me like I committed the greatest sin in the world. ‘Well, if you told me to go see Captain America, I would! I'd go see it!' You know, and I would know. But you should make a note, ‘Go see Captain America before you read the script."

That being said, Douglas still performed really well, as did most of the cast. It's like he was fully aware of what happened in Civil War, though it's likely that he was informed of that film's events.

Ant-Man is expected to play a huge role in Avengers 4, especially after that mid-credits scene.
