Before Wonder Woman 1984 hits theaters, we're going to be following up with Harley Quinn in Birds of Prey. Just in, we have a new TV spot for the movie (via @DCEUPosts on Twitter), and it gives us a better tease for Roman Sionis/Black Mask's gang.
While we don't actually get to see a new shot of Ewan Mcgregor as Sionis, we do get a look at his "army" and they're all wearing masks. In the comics, Black Mask had a penchant for making his gang wear all sorts of masks; his origin happens when Sionis accidentally gets his mask permanently stuck to his face. With the character of Sionis being branded as a narcissist in this film; you can bet he's going to be losing his face one way or another.
With Birds of Prey said to have an R-rating, I'm kind of hoping that director Cathy Yan really delves into the sadistic nature of Black Mask. In the comics, he drives a woman crazy by force-feeding her husband's eyeballs; I'm expecting no less from Sionis in this movie. I guess I just really want to have the Birds going up against a scary villain. I don't just want a "mob boss that's a bit of an eccentric."
After splitting with the Joker, Harley Quinn joins superheroes Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya to save a young girl from an evil crime lord, Black Mask in Gotham City.
Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) hits theaters on Feb. 7.
