This morning, the nominees for the 28th Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards were unveiled honoring the best performances on film and TV of the past year. They also recognized the work of the stunt performers and coordinators through the Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble categories where the MCU movies and TV shows dominated the line-up.
Black Widow and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings received nominations for Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture. They are competing against films such as Dune, The Matrix Resurrections, and No Time to Die. On the television side, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki received nominations competing against shows such as Netflix's Cobra Kai and Squid Game and the acclaimed HBO limited series Mare of Easttown.
As for the main categories, some of the actors that received nominations are Spider-Man: No Way Home stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Andrew Garfield who are competing in Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for their respective performances in The Power of the Dog and tick, tick... BOOM!. They are nominated alongside DCEU alumnus Will Smith who is nominated for his work in King Ralph.
Jared Leto, who is starring soon in Morbius, received a nomination for his supporting performance in House of Gucci where is competing against actors such as Ben Affleck (The Tender Bar) and Bradley Cooper (Licorice Pizza).
On the television side, MCU stars Michael Keaton (Dopesick), Oscar Isaac (Scenes from a Marriage), and Evan Peters (Mare of Easttown) are competing in Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series alongside Ewan McGregor (Halston) and Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus).
The hit Netflix series Squid Game also received a lot of love as it received nominations for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, Outstanding Male Actor in a Drama Series for Lee Jung-jae, and Outstanding Female Actor in a Drama Series for Jung Ho-yeon.
It is great to hear that these films and performances were recognized especially with the competition as there were a lot of great films and TV shows that were released last year. It's up to you to say if they really deserve it or not, but we can pretty much agree that it's a very solid list considering the variety of contenders.
The 28th Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony is scheduled to be held on February 27 and it will broadcast live on TNT and TBS.
