Maze Runner Star Dylan O’Brien ‘Healing Very Well’ After Accident, To Film Movie Next Month

Maze Runner's lead star, Dylan O'Brien, will be returning to the set of The Maze Runner: The Death Cure next month. The 24-year-old actor got into an accident while filming a scene for the movie in Vancouver, Canada in mid-March.

In an interview with E! News at the premiere of The Jungle Book, O'Brien's Maze Runner co-star Giancarlo Esposito said:

He's healing very well. He got put together a couple of weeks ago...He's one tough cookie.
He got his bell rung. I would imagine many who witnessed thought that was it...[But] he's a survivor. The one good thing about Dylan that I think is going to help him get back on schedule with us very soon is he has a great attitude.

Filming for The Death Cure was immediately shut down following the accident, but production is already set to resume on May 15, according to Esposito.

In a WorkSafeBC report, O'Brien was described as suffering a "concussion, facial fracture and lacerations" after the accident, which took place when a motorcycle the actor was driving during a stunt slid. O'Brien was identified as a "worker" in the WorkSafeBC report to protect workers' privacy.

The report claimed:

The worker struck his head on the pavement and temporarily lost consciousness.

Maze Runner director Wes Ball also described O'Brien as a "tough cookie" when he made an emotional tweet following the incident:

Well, it's been a whirlwind of emotions these past few days. I've been overwhelmed with feelings of anger and sadness and guilt. But ultimately I find myself left with just a deep love and respect for Dylan. He is one tough cookie.
I'm sorry for the grief this accident has caused his friends and family as well as my wonderful cast and crew. It's scary seeing your friend get hurt, but fortunately, Dylan is going to be just fine. After a few weeks of rest and recovery he will be back up and running to finish our adventure together. All the best.

One tough cookie indeed. It's always astounding to see actors/actresses get back up to work after they've been injured during a shoot.

We're wishing O'Brien and the Maze Runner team all the best.

Death Cure is the third film of the Maze Runner franchise. The movie is slated for release on February 17, 2017.
