Matthew McConaughey Talks About Turning Down Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 and Doctor Strange

Matthew McConaughey had a lot of chances to become part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The Hollywood actor had been offered a couple of roles in the growing Marvel film franchise – one as the baddie for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and the other as the lead for Marvel Studio's first dip into the mystic arts, Doctor Strange. However, despite the all the different opportunities of becoming one of Marvel's super beings, McConaughey turned down both roles. Now, we know why.

According to a report by the Toronto Sun, McConaughey turned down Marvel and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 because he refused to become an amendment to the franchise. Though the actor does like James Gunn's first Guardians of the Galaxy, McConaughey didn't like the idea that he was just another big name actor being signed in to the franchise in it's attempt to gather an even larger audience.

"I like Guardians of the Galaxy, but what I saw was "It's successful, and now we've got room to make a colorful part for another big-name actor." I'd feel like an amendment," McConaughey revealed.

While it may seem to many a missed opportunity, it's great to see an actor standing by his principles and taking on roles in films that he would enjoy. Right now, McConaughey is taking on the part of the villain in the film adaption of Stephen King's novel, The Dark Tower.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is set for release on May 5, 2017 in the US and April 28, 2017 in the UK.
