Matthew Lillard recently teased a major clue about his mysterious role in the highly anticipated DCU film Man of Tomorrow.

In a recent interview with The Direct, Matthew Lillard was asked for a clue regarding the mysterious character that he is playing in Man of Tomorrow.

There were previous rumors that the actor might be playing the DCU version of an older Barry Allen (similar to Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan), but it has since been shut down by James Gunn.

The actor teased that he won't be playing a familiar character and suggested his role is either someone who is niche in the comics or an original character that Gunn wrote for the sequel.

"It's a very James Gunn moment. So, I wouldn't worry too much about finding him in the comics," Lillard said.

Judging from these words, it looks like fans should lower their expectations when it comes to Lillard's role in the sequel.

Nevertheless, it is exciting to see him be part of the DCU sequel since he is one of the rare actors who is part of both the DCU and the MCU (since he appeared in Daredevil: Born Again season 2). Hopefully, it's a juicy enough character who will be a memorable part.

Man of Tomorrow will serve as the fourth feature film in the DCU franchise. It is slated for release in theaters on July 9, 2027.

David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult are confirmed to reprise their respective roles of Superman/Clark Kent and Lex Luthor. Just like the first movie, James Gunn is also serving as the director and writer of the project.

Other cast members who are expected to return in the film are Frank Grillo (Rick Flag, Sr.), Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Sara Sampaio (Eve Teschmacher), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), and Milly Alcock (Supergirl).

Aaron Pierre is confirmed to reprise the role of John Stewart from Lanterns, while German actor Lars Eidinger has been cast to play Brainiac. Adria Arjona, Matthew Lillard, and Andre Royo are also part of the cast. Xolo Maridueña is set to appear as Blue Beetle, making him officially part of the DCU.

While most of the plot details are under wraps, Gunn teased that the film "is a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat."
