The dark K-drama, Mask Girl, follows a woman dancing online with a mask on her face. As a broadcast jockey, one might wonder if she was able to meet any of her followers. More importantly, is there any romance in Mask Girl?

When she was little, a TV show host asked Kim Mo-mi what her dream was. Her answer: "I want to become a person that everyone loves very much."

This could explain why Mo-mi did her best to be accepted by society, despite her odd looks.

But even though this was something she desired, Mo-mi knew that her worth was not based on what other people thought of her. She wanted to be loved but not to the extent of losing herself to her followers.

In this article, we'll dive deeper into the romance aspect of the show and whether Mo-mi met up with any of her followers.

To put it simply, no, Mask Girl does not have any romance in it. The closest thing we got to a romantic angle was Ju Oh-nam's (played by Ahn Jae-hong) obsession with Kim Mo-mi (played by Lee Han-byeol).

Mo-mi is an ordinary office worker who is secretly in love with her boss, Park Gi-hun (played by Daniel Choi). While Gi-hun appears to be busy with work, he's actually taking selfies behind his desk and editing his abs on his computer.

Mo-mi is attracted to Gi-hun because he treats his subordinates equally and does not favor one because of their position. But unfortunately, this is simply a front.

As Mo-mi discovers, Gi-hun is actually having an affair with their intern, Lee A-reum (played by Park Jeong-hwa). Mo-mi discovers the two sneaking in at the office while everyone else has already gone home.

This discovery breaks Mo-mi's heart. And in her misery, she drinks alcohol and ends up stripping in front of her computer.

Her livestream gets suspended and she has no way to get her account back. This further leads Mo-mi to a dark path as she seeks comfort from her followers.

At first, she chats with Once Upon a Prince (aka Oh-nam). But as she asks him to meet up with her, Oh-nam hesitates and misses his opportunity. Mo-mi tells him that she's meeting up with another follower called Handsome Monk (played by Park Keun-rok) instead.

When Mo-mi meets up with Handsome Monk, she tries her best to hide her face behind a face mask. But after Handsome Monk convinces her, she finally shows him her face.

He leads her to believe that he finds her attractive and that he is sincere about how he feels.

What Mo-mi doesn't know, however, is that Handsome Monk has been posting about their date on an online forum. He also plans to get physical with Mo-mi just for the sake of it.

Oh-nam is aware of Handsome Monk's plans and decides to rescue Mo-mi. His phone calls, however, go unanswered as Mo-mi is having a good time with Handsome Monk.

When they get to a motel, Handsome Monk leaves to buy some beer. This is when Mo-mi manages to see the missed calls on her phone. She gets confused by the calls, however, since she doesn't realize Oh-nam is one of her followers.

When Handsome Monk returns, Mo-mi decides to leave. This is when he starts criticizing and insulting her.

As Mo-mi defends herself from getting raped, Handsome Monk hits his head on a side table and falls unconscious. Mo-mi gets help from Oh-nam, who tells her to leave so he can take care of it.

When he is alone, Handsome Monk stirs but this startles him. This causes Oh-nam to stab him multiple times and eventually dismember him. He leaves by putting his body in a suitcase.

As Oh-nam returns to work the next day, he learns that Mo-mi has quit. He tries to look for her and convince her to return to normal like nothing happened.

The two end up in Mo-mi's apartment as she tells him her plans to start anew. This saddens Oh-nam since he wants to be with her.

When Mo-mi asks what he wanted from her, he keeps quiet. Mo-mi believes he is like all the other men and starts to walk away. This angers Oh-nam, who then throws Mo-mi on the bed and forces himself into her.

He tells her that he plans to keep his promise to protect her while raping her. And after that, he tells her he loves her.

After that, he realizes that Mo-mi is not unconscious and takes off her mask. This is where he sees Mo-mi's face covered in bandages as she has already gotten plastic surgery.

Mo-mi goes on top of him and stabs him with a nearby dagger, killing him in the process.

So, no, there is no romance in Mask Girl. There is a lot of dark stuff though. But it's a look into a cruel world that judges people based on their appearances.
