Marvel's Star Wars Comics Will End With Surprising Return To Empire Strikes Back

Marvel Comics has had a very successful run with its Star Wars comic books that have expanded on the franchise's universe. However, the long-running series will finally end this year and it's going out in a truly surprising way. The Star Wars comic will conclude with a special one-shot finale issue that will bring us back to The Empire Strikes Back.

According to StarWars.com the one-shot title Star Wars: Empire Ascendant #1 is "a 56-page epic" that is written by several writers including Charles Soule, Greg Pak, Simon Spurrier, and Ethan Sacks. The art will be done by Luke Ross, Roland Boschi, and more. As a teaser, the cover art by Riccardo Federici has just been revealed. Check it out below.

The description for Empire Ascendant reads as follows:

"Star Wars: Empire Ascendant #1 finds the Rebel Alliance — Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo among them — building up Echo Base on the ice planet of Hoth while Darth Vader tries to locate the headquarters in vain."

That's right, we're going back to Hoth. Although we're not sure if we'll get to see more Wampa action, it has also been revealed that the comic will delve into the fates of Doctor Aphra and Beilert Valance.

It's good to know that Marvel Comics is bringing us all back to where most of the action is and tying up some loose ends for the Star Wars Universe ahead of the conclusion of the Skywalker Saga. Although Empire Ascendant has not yet been given an official release date, fans can expect to get their hands on it by December.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will premiere on December 20.
