Marvel's Shang-Chi Movie Finds Its Director

All eyes might be on Avengers: Endgame and Captain Marvel right now but it looks like Marvel Studios is already moving forward with some of their next projects. Shang-Chi, which will star the studios' first Asian lead, has found its director and it's somebody who has worked with a Marvel star quite regularly.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Destin Daniel Cretton will be helming the film, while Wonder Woman 1984 writer Dave Callaham will script it. Cretton has worked with Captain Marvel star Brie Larson in several movies, including the upcoming No Mercy which still stars Larson and Black Panther star Michael B. Jordan. Does that mean he's a runner-up for Captain Marvel 2?

Shang-Chi, who in the comics is half-Chinese and half-American, first appeared in 1973's Special Marvel Edition No. 15 and was created by Steve Englehart and Jim Starlin after Marvel failed to acquire the comic book rights to the television series Kung Fu. Shang-Chi was trained as a martial artist assassin by his father, the infamous pulp villain Fu Manchu, but later became a hero after rebelling against his father's ways. Shang-Chi was a hit character in the '70s, and recently saw a revival as a member of The Avengers during 2012's Marvel Now! Publishing event.

Currently, there is no release date for the Shang-Chi movie. Anyone else hoping that Iron Fist will make an appearance?
