Marvel’s Eternals Gets Official Synopsis and Character Descriptions

Besides the release of Black Widow, Marvel fans are also set to get a new group of heroes with Eternals later this year. Though we don't know when the first trailer for the movie will drop, we now have the official description for the movie as well as the characters.

This comes from Marvel Studios (via ComicBook):

Marvel Studios' The Eternals features an exciting new team of Super-Heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows to reunite against mankind's most ancient enemy, The Deviants.

What's interesting is that the synopsis emphasizes how the events of the film take place after Avengers: Endgame. Besides Spider-Man: Far from Home, we haven't really gotten an update on the main MCU. Though Black Widow is set to kick-off phase 4, it's a period film and will take place before the events of the Infinity War.

As for character descriptions, Marvel gave us this:

"The outstanding ensemble cast include Richard Madden as the all-powerful Ikaris, Gemma Chan as humankind-loving Sersi, Kumail Nanjiani as the cosmic-powered Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as the super-fast Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as the intelligent inventor Phastos, Salma Hayak as the wise and spiritual leader Ajak, Lia McHugh as the eternally young, old-coul Sprite, Don Lee as the powerful Gilgamesh, Barry Keoghan as the aloof longer Druig, and Angelina Jolie as the fierce warrior Thena. Kit Harrington was cast as Dane Whitman."

With Guardians of the Galaxy successfully giving us new characters, I'm kind of hoping Marvel manages to capture that same magic with Eternals. No offense to Captain Marvel or Black Panther, but besides their cultural significance, I really don't think they were home runs in terms of story. Hopefully, Eternals manages to open up this new chapter in the MCU while at the same time giving us a new set of memorable characters.

Catch Eternals when it hits theaters Nov. 6.
