With Tony Stark dead, Rhodey (Don Cheadle) will have to take on a more major role in the MCU moving forward. While we have no idea when we're going to see War Machine again, Cheadle is going to be working with the Looney Tunes soon.
According to Deadline, Cheadle has been cast in the upcoming sequel/reboot, Space Jam 2. We don't have any details yet on who Cheadle is playing, but we do know that he joins a cast which includes the likes of Soneque Martin-Green (Star Trek: Discovery) and O'Shea Jackson Jr. (Godzilla: King of Monsters). As for the main star, it's basketball legend, LeBron James.
What's also interesting is that the movie has cast NBA stars to play other NBA stars. For now, the cast lists Jared Sullinger as Charles Barkley and Tacko Fall as Shawn Bradley.
The movie is going to be directed by Terrence Nance (Random Acts of Flyness) with Black Panther helmer Ryan Coogler attached as a producer. The film has actually been taking a while to get off the ground, but with the news of all this casting, I think Space Jam 2 is finally ready to be made.
Hopefully, this leads to a lot of other Looney Tunes spinoffs in the future. There was actually supposed to be a Tony Hawk-led Skate Jam in the works, but after Looney Tunes: Back in Action bombed at the box office, the franchise was shelved indefinitely.
Let's hope Space Jam 2 doesn't end up the same way. Catch the film in theaters July 16, 2021.
