Marvel's Blade Receives Disappointing Update Amidst the WGA Strike

The ongoing strike by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) has resulted in a temporary pause for the production of several film and TV projects across Hollywood. This is due to the fact that writers are not allowed by the guild to do any work while the strike is happening.

Marvel Studios is certainly no exception to the situation although we haven't heard any news of their projects that are filming that have been severely impacted so far. However, it looks like that won't be the case for one of their films that are set to shoot soon.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Blade has paused its pre-production, making it the first MCU project that has been impacted by the strike. The film was supposed to start shooting next month in Atlanta.

Before the strike commenced, True Detective creator Nic Pizzollato was hired to rewrite the screenplay. However, an insider cited in the report said that "time simply ran out" which is why Marvel Studios decided to halt its pre-production.

The studio is planning to restart its production once the strike is over although it is still unknown as of this moment regarding how long it will last.

Despite pausing the pre-production for Blade, Marvel Studios is still expected to start filming on Deadpool 3 in London later this month and Thunderbolts in Atlanta this June.

The strike has also not impacted the three MCU projects that are currently filming at the moment such as Captain America: New America, Agatha: Coven of Chaos, and Wonder Man. However, the situation could change depending on how long the strike will last.

Meanwhile, Fantastic Four is planning to start filming in London on January 2024 although it could change if the strike dragged on for six months or more.

This is certainly another setback for the production of Blade since it has experienced several obstacles over the last few years such as the exit of the original director Bassam Tariq. It is unknown yet whether the release date will be changed as a result of this.

Given that this is a changing situation, we might be hearing more production updates about the aforementioned MCU projects in the coming weeks or months and it could also result in another major change on their release calendar.
