Marvel's Avengers Coming to Next-Gen Consoles, PS4 and XB1 Versions Get Free Upgrade

It looks like Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics are following in the positive footsteps of CD Projekt Red as it was announced that Marvel's Avengers will also be coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X. That doesn't mean the game has been canceled for PS4 and Xbox One; on the contrary, when fans buy it for their current-gen systems they will get a free next-gen upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series X.

According to the PlayStation Blog, it doesn't matter if fans buy a physical or digital copy of Marvel's Avengers since either version will be eligible for the next-gen upgrade on PS5. We're going to assume that it will stay true for the Xbox One and Xbox Series X since they want to appeal to everyone who will be able to get this game.

The next-gen upgrades are pretty substantial apparently since it will add increased texture resolution, among other things. We're pretty happy to see them think of current-gen gamers since there was basically no backward-compatibility for the PS4 and Xbox One era. Sure, Xbox One eventually added that for 360 games but the PS4 never got around that so this is a definite step up.

Marvel's Avengers will give us an original new story about the team's disassembling and reassembling after the events of A-Day, where Captain America seemingly died. Not long after, Kamala Khan discovers a secret that brings the group back together while also starting her own superhero career as Ms. Marvel.

Fans will be able to pick up Marvel's Avengers this September on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia. The game will also be a launch title for the PS5 and Xbox Series X when it comes out.
