Marvel X-Men Writer On The Issue Of Having Too Many Overpowered Mutants

It looks like Marvel comic writer Jonathan Hickman plans to fix one of the biggest issues with the X-Men comics – the skyrocketing power levels of the mutants.

Most of the X-Men used to be fine with their psychic and elemental powers, however, over the years, Marvel has introduced a smorgasbord of mutants that can alter reality itself. Now, with his House of X event series, Hickman plans to reign in the mutant powers.

Speaking in a recent interview with AIPT, Hickman revealed that he's pretty much against playing around with the number of Omega Level mutants in the Marvel comic universe in his new comic event.

"The list of Omega Level mutants is complete and set in stone," Hickman said. "Anyone who isn't on the list isn't one, and there won't be any new Omega Level characters created for quite some time. There are way too many overcooked characters as is right now. It's probably the second worse thing we do after breaking things for dramatic, and not story, reasons."

Omega level characters are cool, sure, but too much of them can be problematic for the franchise. Hickman's plan with his X-Men series is to focus on the mutants that are already there and enrich the mythos of the franchise. The comic book writer doesn't really want to add new overpowered mutants just so that he can forward his storyline. Instead, he wants to use the characters that have already been introduced in the franchise to complete his narrative.
