Marvel's X-Men '97 Episode Count Revealed

During the Disney+ Day last November, it was announced that Marvel Studios is reviving X-Men: The Animated Series for the streamer titled X-Men '97 which will continue the events of the original series. A lot of fans have been excited as they never thought that the series would ever get a revival, especially since 25 years have passed since it last aired. There have been questions about how many episodes will Marvel Studios produce for the revival and now we have an answer.

Per ComicBook.com, in an interview with Justin Underwood on his YouTube channel, X-Men '97 consulting producer and original X-Men: The Aminated Series showrunner Eric Lewald shared some intel regarding the upcoming revival where he revealed how many episodes will the first season have.

"They want it to be an extension [of X-Men: The Animated Series]," Lewald said. "Whoever it is doing this new show is going to make it their own, no matter who is involved in it. There is great love and affection and respect from an entire group of people that are doing this show, starting at the top with Beau DeMayo, who's the showrunner."

Lewald added, "I believe they're looking at 10 episodes for the first season that's going to come out mid-next year. They're starting it soon after ours ended... 'Where is [Professor X?]'" He is referring to the cliffhanger ending of the original series where Empress Lilandra took a wounded Professor Xavier into space to be cured by Shi'Ar Empire. The revival will "build off of that," he noted.

The ten-episode count for the first season of X-Men '97 is in alignment with the final season of X-Men: The Animated Series which also has 10 episodes. The other seasons ran between 13 and 21 episodes so the number of episodes will be shorter than in an average season of the original series. In addition, most TV shows today have an episode count between 8 and 13 so it's not surprising that the revival will only have 10.

It is great to hear confirmation about the episode count for the first season of X-Men '97 as it gives us an idea about what the revival will look like in terms of its storyline and it is the tangibility of the announcement that they did a few months ago. We should be hearing more information about the revival as we're getting closer to its release.
