There are very few Marvel villains that have repeatedly appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy usually make sure to finish dealing with their enemies in a single or a few films. However, it seems like Marvel Comics may be teasing the possible return of the murder bot, Ultron.
Captain Marvel has a new prelude comic showing what Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Maria Hill (Colbie Smoulders) have been doing while the Avengers have been busy in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War.
While Ultron was previously defeated by the Avengers in Age of Ultron, a recapped scene in the Captain Marvel Prelude comic teases the return of the film's main villain. In the scene, the Ultron drone crashes smack right into the helicarrier while Fury and Hill try to evacuate Sokovia. In the end, the two stop the drone before it could do any damage and hurt civilians.
According to a theory by ComicBook.com, this scene could very well set the stage for the return of Ultron in the MCU. Though it seems a bit farfetched, the Avengers: Infnity War prequel recapped the events of Captain America: The First Avenger, and lo and behold, Red Skull made a return in the first installment in the Russo Brother's two-part Avengers movie.
Could Ultron really be making an appearance in a future Marvel film? Perhaps in one of the time-traveling sequences in Avengers 4? Let's wait and see.
Avengers 4 hits cinemas May 3, 2019.
